The oldest stadium in college sports
Franklin Field opened in 1895 and seats 52,593. The NCAA recognizes it as the oldest operating stadium in college sports, and it's the oldest two-tiered stadium in the country.
It hosted the first commercially televised college football game (Penn vs. Maryland, Oct. 5, 1940), and the Penn Relays have run here every spring since the day it opened.
Getting there and parking
Franklin Field is on 33rd Street in University City, next to the Palestra. Penn Athletics points fans to SEPTA for transit, so plan your route with SEPTA's trip planner.
Game-day parking is $25 at the Penn Museum garage and Penn Park. Chestnut 34 and Ludlow 34 garages are options too. Penn asks fans not to use the 32nd and Chestnut garage on game day.
Gates, bags and entry
Gates open 90 minutes before kickoff. Gates 1 and 2 take any ticket holder (Gate 1 has visiting will call; Gate 2 has game-day sales). Penn students use Gate 3.
Bags must be smaller than 16″ × 16″ × 8″. No duffel or equipment bags. Outside food should be in clear wrapping that fits in a one-gallon freezer bag.
There's no re-entry for any event at Franklin Field.
What to leave home
Alcohol, coolers, glass bottles and cans, noisemakers, poles and tripods, strollers, hard-backed seat cushions, fireworks, weapons and animals (service animals are welcome) aren't allowed.
Philly tip: Penn sells "Pregame on The Green" tailgate packages that open three hours before kickoff. Check Penn Athletics for the current season's details.
