The Cathedral of College Basketball

The Palestra opened on January 1, 1927, and seats about 8,000. It's Penn's home court, and this season it also hosts Temple games (Richmond on Nov. 8 and St. Bonaventure on Dec. 12) for its 100th anniversary, plus La Salle in the Cathedral Classic.

The women's Big 5 Classic is here too: a tripleheader on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2026.

Getting there

The Palestra is in University City on 33rd Street, near Penn's campus. Penn Athletics points fans to SEPTA's trip planner for transit, so plan your route there before you head out.

Doors, bags and entry

Doors open 60 minutes before men's games.

Bags must be smaller than 16″ × 16″ × 8″. No duffel bags or equipment bags.

No re-entry, except for an emergency exit with a signed ticket stub.

What to leave home

Noisemakers, strollers and hard-backed seat cushions aren't allowed.

Philly tip: The Palestra is old-school and intimate. Get there when doors open to soak it in.
